Mommies for spring 2013

These are my two shetland ewes that I bred to Smiley before he left for his new home this fall.

At the top of the picture is Easter Day and Ebony is the black ewe at the bottom who is definitely showing a baby bump.

Both of these ewes are due in March.
Nigerian does-- Tinkerbelle, the spotted one, and Catalina both bred to Shiloh.
Nigora doe-- Ginger bred to Shiloh.
Nigerian doe-  Blossom currently in the breeding pen with my new buck Alamo.

I'm looking forward to some pretty babies in the spring :) !!!

Last kid to be born!

Ginger, my F1 Nigora, finally had her baby.  She was BIG and I thought she would have at least two but only one was found this morning.  It's a 'he' but very cute.  So he is 1/4 angora and 3/4 nigerian with blue eyes.  My youngest Kella is wanting to keep him, so for now he's a keeper.  Maybe he'll turn out to be a good prospect for breeding in my nigora program if he is bred back to full angora does.  That's a thought.

On the good side, Ginger has a great milk bag on her and I had to actually milk her some today because she looked too full.  I got 10oz easily and did not even milk her out because the baby was still needing to have some to nurse.  Maybe she'll be my milker this year.

Full Circle

I have been breeding for Nigora goats for about 4 years now.  It has been slow going since I've decided to breed my angora does that I've had with my nigerian buck(s).  Angora does are not as fertile as nigerians I've decided, because out of 4 angora does I've only had 4 nigora does born from two of those does; I did have one nigora doe born to one of my colored angora does but she did not make it.  So either way it has been slow going.  This fall I have high hopes to breed nigora to nigora for 2012 spring kids.  Well onto my pictures in this post.  The top picture is of my 2009 nigora doe born to my old angora doe I lost this past fall.  She ended up going to some wonderful people in middle TN but recently they decided to scale down on their goat herd and wanted to know if I wanted to buy her back.  Yes!!! I could not get her right away do to my own circumstances but found out recently that she was still available.  Yeh!  I went to go pick her up Friday with her nigerian doe companion.

So I am thrilled that I was able to bring her back full circle to her first home.  I am so glad her owners contacted me about her and I was able to get her and her friend.  As you can see from the picture below they are not trusting me yet but I did some bribing...the feed pellets were not to their liking but I was able to get the nigora (Ginger) to take some goat mineral block pieces from my hand, her friend (MaryAnn) was too shy to venture very close.  Oh, the names came from my kids who are currently watching the t.v. series, Gilligan's Island, with their dad.  Remember Ginger, the movie star, and MaryAnn, the farm girl type :)
